School Closure Extended Through May 1

If you missed the communication the District sent out this past Wednesday (3/25) about the extension of the school closure, please see the excerpt below:

. . . the Santa Clara County Office of Education issued a joint press statement announcing a regional decision to extend school closures until May 1.

The Morgan Hill Unified School district values the health and safety of our employees, students and families. It is our goal to limit the spread of COVID-19 as much as we can. We will continue to offer distance learning and enrichment throughout the closure. We are offering a wide range of educational resources for our students that will be continually updated. Our student nutrition program will continue to distribute meals on Mondays until schools are back in session. Please use our website as a resource for helpful information. Many of our employees will also be called back to safely perform other essential services.

We will continue to work closely with Santa Clara County Public Health and Santa Clara County Office of Education who are working in a coordinated approach with counterparts in the region to best support the children in our community. We ask that you continue to follow the Shelter in Place guidance provided by Public Health Officers including:  social distancing, washing hands often with soap and water, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, staying home if you are feeling sick. Please contact your healthcare provider if you are experiencing any symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. Continue to engage in regular exercise or physical activity.

Please check the district website for additional information: https://www.mhusd.org/covid-19

Meal Distribution during the Closure (Updated 3/29)

Pick up for Monday (3/30) for 5 days of lunches and breakfast will be at  Los Paseos Elementary (121 Avenida Grande in San Jose), El Toro Elementary (455 E. Main Ave. in MH), and San Martin/Gwinn Elementary (100 North Street in San Martin) (Updated 3/19)

Additionally, if you missed the email that was sent out by the district office on March 28, please see the info below regarding future meal pick ups:

During the closure of our schools through May 1, the MHUSD Student Nutrition Department will continue to provide meals to any children in our community under the age of 18.  In order to limit exposure and align with social distancing practices and “Shelter in Place”, we offer a single day pick up for meals for an entire week (five lunches and five breakfasts for the week).

Meals will be provided at no cost to all children under the age of 18 - there is no qualifications or paperwork to complete.  Meals can be picked up between 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m on Mondays - April 6, 13, 20th & 27th at this time.

Pick up locations can be found in the parking lot or at the entrance of each participating school.  The children receiving the meals do not need to be present when the meals are picked up.  If you cannot drive to the site, you can walk by.  We then request you follow the county guidance of “social distancing” and maintain a six foot distance from others.  Meals will be offered at the following schools (please note the change below):

School Meal Pick-up Sites  11:00 - 1:00 p.m.

  • Los Paseos Elementary School - 121 Avenida Grande, San Jose, CA 95139

  • Live Oak High School - 1505 E. Main Ave, Morgan Hill, CA 95037

  • San Martin/Gwinn Environmental Science Academy - 100 North St., San Martin, CA 95046

This program will be solely for the pick-up of meals and meals will not be consumed on site.  Safe food handling instructions will be provided. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 exposure by not congregating at the school site once meals have been distributed.  Please continue to wash hands often, refrain from touching your eyes, nose or mouth, sneeze or cough into a tissue, and stay home if sick.
